I often get asked about shampoos and cleansing, so today let’s take a deep dive into the suds…
The daily washing dilemma
You may have heard “Daily washing is a no-no, as it damages and dries your hair”.
Well, that’s not true if you use the right products. Our Semi Di Lino Nutritive Low Shampoo, for instance, is formulated to nourish your hair, irrespective of your washing frequency.
Listen to your hair’s needs, choose the right shampoo and wash away. Whether it’s every day or every few days, it’s your call.
Lather, rinse… repeat
We’ve all heard the classic ‘lather, rinse, repeat’ mantra. If you’re dealing with product build-up or if your scalp is on the oily side, a second lather is always needed. We like to shampoo twice as the first shampoo will break up dirt and oils on scalp, the second shampoo will thoroughly cleanse and refresh.
And talking of lather…
The lather lowdown
Don’t worry about creating lots of suds and bubbles for effective cleansing. In fact, if you’re using a sulphate-free shampoo it won’t foam up like traditional shampoos, but it is still high on performance.
Remember, it’s the rinsing that sweeps away the dirt, not the froth.
Does hair get ‘bored’ of shampoo?
No. Your hair does not ‘get used to’ a particular shampoo.
If you feel your shampoo is less effective, it’s likely not the shampoo but a change in your hair’s condition. Have a chat with your stylist who can examine your hair’s condition and recommend the right product for its needs.
That said…
Seasonal swaps? Absolutely!
Just as we adapt our skincare with the changing seasons, our hair care routine should follow suit.
In the dryer, colder months, consider switching to a more nourishing shampoo, such as our Semi Di Lino Nutritive Low Shampoo or Benvoleo Hydration Creamy Shampoo to combat the low humidity and harsh environment.
Shampooing and hair loss
Losing a few strands in the shower? We lose up to 100 hairs a day. It’s natural to lose some hair during washing which doesn’t cause hair loss but removes hairs that are already loose and ready to shed. If you feel noticeable thinning on the scalp, you might like to try our enrgising program for hair loss or our new Density line to help thicken strands.
Be gentle
Did you know hair is remarkably delicate when wet? Treat it carefully.
There is no need for a vigorous lather. Instead, use gentle, circular motions on the scalp to invigorate and cleanse. It’s not just good for your hair – it’s a mini spa-moment for you too. Even better, try using a shampoo brush in circular movements to give your scalp a real treat.
And dab, don’t rub, with your towel when you’ve finished.
Shampoo and natural oils
Let’s dispel a couple of myths here…
Daily cleansing doesn’t strip your hair of essential oils. Your sebaceous glands continuously produce oils that coat your hair.
And, contrary to popular belief, frequent washing doesn’t lead to more oily hair in most instances. Quite the opposite. Shampooing removes excess buildup, allowing your scalp to maintain a healthy oil balance provided you use the correct shampoo for your scalps condition. You may find by choosing the correct type of shampoo that your scalp woes disappear altogether.
Finding your perfect match
As you can see, choosing the right shampoo for your hair type is crucial. It’s not just about cleaning, it’s about nurturing your hair’s needs. Whether your locks are curly, straight, coloured or dry, there’s a shampoo soulmate waiting for you. Ask your stylist for their expert advice at your next appointment – we love to help!
